Kingfisher Denies Takeover Talks with Home Depot

London, England, May 9--U.K. retailer Kingfisher PLC dismissed a newspaper report that it has discussed a possible takeover by Home Depot Inc., the world's largest DIY retailer. An article in the Mail on Sunday reported that Home Depot has signaled it will start talks on a takeover deal if the U.K. retailer was willing to dispose of its French unit, Castorama. The newspaper said the move was discussed at a meeting in London with Kingfisher Chief Executive Gerry Murphy, Kingerfisher Chairman Francis Mackay and Bob Nardelli, chairman and chief executive of Home Depot. Home Depot has also floated the possibility to set up a joint venture in China between the two companies, according to the Mail on Sunday. A spokesman for Kingfisher said the article was based on speculation and that it was entirely without foundation.
