Jobless Claims Up 7,000 Last Week

Washington, DC, August 9, 2007—Applications for initial jobless claims rose 7,000 to a seasonally adjusted 316,000 for the week ended July 30, according to the Labor Department.

 

The four-week average of initial claims rose by 1,750, to 307,750.

 

The number of people continuing to collect unemployment benefits continued to rise, increasing by 39,000 to 2.55 million in the week ending July 28. It's the highest since July 7.
