Jobless Claims Fall 6,000 Last Week

Washington, DC, November 1, 2007—Jobless claims fell 6,000 to 327,000 in the week ended October 27, according to a report from the Labor Department.

 

Economists had expected claims to fall to a level of 330,000.

 

The four-week moving average of claims rose to 327,000, the highest since April, from 325,250.

 

The number of people continuing to collect state unemployment benefits rose to 2.588 million in the week that ended Oct. 20, from 2.523 million the prior week. The unemployment rate among people eligible for benefits, which tends to track the U.S. jobless rate, rose to 2% from 1.9%. These data are reported with a one-week lag.
