Jobless Applications Rise Last Week

Washington, DC, May 31, 2012 -- Initial applications for unemployment benefits rose last week to the highest level in more than a month, according to the Labor Department.

Jobless claims rose by 10,000 to a seasonally adjusted 383,000 in the week ended May 26.

Claims from two weeks ago were revised up to 373,000 from an original reading of 370,000.

Economists had projected that new claims would total 370,000.
