Job Openings at Highest Level Since 2007

Washington, DC, July 8, 2014 -- Job openings in the U.S. rose in April to the highest level since September 2007, according to the Labor Department.

The number of positions rose by 289,000 to 4.46 million in April.

The latest JOLTS report showed the number of people hired was little changed at 4.71 million in April, keeping the hiring rate at 3.4%, compared with an average 2.8% during the previous expansion.

Job openings rose at manufacturers, retailers and professional and business service providers but declined at construction firms.
