Job Growth Continues in July

Washington, DC, Aug. 6, 2010--Job growth continued at a slow pace in July, the Labor Department said Friday.

Private nonfarm payrolls expanded by 71,000 in July, lower than the 100,000 gain expected by economists.

The unemployment rate remained unchanged at 9.5%, lower than the forecast rate of 9.6%. Average hourly earnings increased $0.02, or 0.1% to $19.04.

Earnings are up 2.3% in the past year. The average workweek was up six minutes to 34.2 hours.
