J+J Releases Update on 20/20 Quest

Dalton, GA, April 28, 2017—J+J Flooring Group has released a progress update towards the company’s 20/20 Vision environmental performance goals in advance of its forthcoming sustainability report, which is scheduled for release in June.

Progress towards these performance goals in 2016 includes:

• A 34% water consumption reduction since 2010, including a 10.9% water consumption reduction in 2016.

• Completing the goal of 23% energy use reduction since 2010, including a 9.4% reduction in 2016—and continuing to make improvements in reducing energy consumption throughout the manufacturing process.

• An 18% reduction in GHG emissions since 2010, including a 3.4% reduction in 2016.

Designed to serve as an operational guidepost for managing J+J’s environmental performance, the 20/20 Vision sets forth five key goals the organization is working to achieve by the year 2020.

The company successfully achieved the first goal, eliminating the use of landfills, when it became the first flooring manufacturer in the U.S. to become a third-party certified Zero Waste to Landfill manufacturer six years ahead of its 2020 goal.

The remaining 20/20 Vision goals (compared to the baseline year of 2010) include: Reducing water usage by 66 percent; reducing energy intensity by 20 percent; cutting greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 20 percent; and increasing the use of bio-based, recycled or renewable content in products to 33 percent.

As part of the company’s broader commitment to thinking differently about energy consumption, the company also offset more than 50 percent of its direct energy consumption in 2016 with the purchase of renewable energy credits through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Green Power Partnership.
