J+J & APPA Partnering for Facilities Drive-In Workshop

Dalton, GA, September 30, 2016—J+J Flooring Group is partnering with APPA, the leading worldwide professional association of education facility managers, to present a Facilities Drive-In Workshop, October 12 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on the campus of Roosevelt University in Schaumburg, Illinois.

Working in collaboration with APPA and Roosevelt University, J+J Flooring Group has developed a content focus that has strategic application to financial outcomes, student and faculty satisfaction and safety in education facilities.

The session will consist of three highly relevant topic areas: “Leveraging the Built Environments to Enhance Brand Power,” “The Emergence of Research-Based Design in Learning Environments” and “Preventing Slips, Trips and Falls.” 

The Leveraging the Built Environments to Enhance Brand Power session, led by Eileen Jones, principal with the global architecture and design firm Perkins + Will, will address the benefits of leveraging facilities to enhance the brand awareness and preference for educational institutions.

Using flooring as an example, the research-based design section will discuss the measurable functional attributes of flooring that should be included in the specification process. Led by J+J Flooring Group’s Director of Applied Research Keith Gray, the functional flooring attributes discussed will include: acoustics, anti-fatigue properties, compatibility with high-moisture concrete slabs, and slip/fall characteristics and injury reduction.

Two highly recognized safety experts, Russell Kendzior and Steve Spencer, will address the financial costs related to slips, trips and falls. Discussion for this topic will include: How to incorporate high traction products in facility design; how to maintain a floor’s traction, how ANSI B101 walkway safety standards affect facilities; and how to defend a slip and fall lawsuit.

The workshop is geared to local area technical and non-technical facility professionals at all levels who work at public and private educational institutions, including K-12 schools, colleges and universities. Facility professionals at museums and libraries are also welcomed to attend. 

The registration fee is complementary and includes a continental breakfast and lunch, but space is limited. All registrants will earn 0.4 CEUs, 4 PDH units and 4 LUs. Each session will include the use of audience-response technology, allowing attendees to participate with individual feedback and personalized interactivity.
