Plano, TX, November 15, 2005--J.C. Penney Co. in the third quarter reported earnings that rose 57 percent to $234 million, or $0.94 per share, compared to $149 million, or $0.50 per share, in the year-ago period.
Analysts were anticipating quarterly earnings per share of $0.92.
Net sales rose to $4.48 billion from $4.39 billion.
The company said it expects fourth quarter earnings of approximately $1.58 per share and it said it expects to full-year earnings to be in line with analyst’s expectation of $3.51 per share.
