ITC Seeking Info on Chinese Wood Imports

Seattle, WA, July 13, 2011 -- The U.S. International Trade Commission is sending out questionnaires to some wood flooring companies regarding the purchase of Chinese products, and the forms must be returned by Aug. 10.

The Alliance for Free Choice and Jobs in Flooring, which has been involved in the recent dispute over tariffs place on Chinese engineered hardwood, has advised its members that failure to return the forms could result in a subpoena of company records as well as non-compliance penalties.

The ITC requires information on total purchases of all Chinese products, received both directly from China and indirectly, the Alliance said.

Since many U.S. companies such as Mannington and Armstrong sell both imported and domestically produced product under their brands, customers will need to ask for a breakdown of product origin.

The Alliance said that the information requested is complicated and will likely require talking to suppliers.
