Tehran, Iran, April 4--Hand-woven carpets worth over $471 million were exported last year (Iranian year, ending March 20, 2005), indicating a 17.7 percent drop compared to the same period last year.
According to the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Customs Administration, Persian carpet exports experienced an 8.6 percent decline in terms of weight during the period, a news report said, according to MNA.
Following the hand-woven carpet, handicrafts and jewelries made from turquoise, and other precious stones and metals ranked second in the exports of the non-oil commodities.
Based on the reports, 26.6 tons of handicrafts valued at $563.9 million were exported during the same period. The figures indicate 12.6 percent decrease compared to the year before.
Meanwhile, carpet and other handicrafts’ share in the non-oil exports were 0.2 percent and 8.8 percent in terms of weight and value respectively. The figures are indicatives of 0.1 percent and 2.9 percent decline in terms of weight and value respectively, the report further explained.
