Iranian Carpet Exports Up in Quarter
Tehran, Iran, Aug. 7, 2008--Iran's handwoven carpet exports increased by five percent during March 20-June 20 period compared to last year, according to the Joint Stock Carpet Co.
Seyyed Jalaleddin Basam, speaking at the First Specialized Exhibition on Handwoven Carpet and Furniture in Karaj, said that carpets worth $71 million have been exported within the period.
Last year, a total of $398 million of handwoven carpets was exported abroad, he noted.
The exhibit, which will continue until Aug 17, showcases 365 various carpets and Gabbeh, an intricately designed rug.
