Iran to Open U.S. Carpet Center

Tehran, Iran, October 5, 2007--The National Carpet Center director says Iran aims to form a hand-woven carpet center incorporated by U.S.-based Iranian entrepreneurs.

"Preliminary talks and coordination have been made and a representative of Iran's National Carpet Center will head to the United States soon," said Morteza Faraji, the director of Iran's National Carpet Center.

Faraji said that gathering data about the global market needs and the formation of various societies abroad plays a fundamental role in providing information to the local carpet producers.

Currently, centers working on the Iranian handmade carpets are based in Germany and Italy.

"Iran's National Carpet Center also plans to survey the market preferences and will relay the information gathered to the local producers," he added.

So far, Iran's carpet center has registered 3,500 carpet producers abroad out of the total 10,000.

"The National Carpet Center intends to identify carpet tycoons and retailers, a move aimed at shedding light on the high stature of Iranian carpets at global markets," Faraji said.
