Iran Has World's Largest Octagonal Carpet
Naeen, Iran, Aug. 31, 2009--The world's largest octagonal carpet has been unveiled in Naeen located in Iran's central Isfahan Province.
The 125 square meter carpet, which has been gifted to a religious center, bears patterns reflecting Naeen deserts and the traditional architecture of the Hoseiniya ceiling.
It also features traditional Persian patterns, which are a characteristic of Iranian carpets, IRNA reported.
The preliminary design of the cream-colored carpet was produced by maestro Valiollah Sharei-Naeeni and the colors were adjusted by maestro Mohammad Saeedizadeh-Naeeni.
Naeen is famous for its unique rugs and carpets and houses one of Iran's oldest mosques as well as a Sassanid fortress now in ruins.
