Iran Denies Carpet Weaving City in China
Tehran, Iran, June 28, 2007--Deputy Commerce Minister Morteza Faraji denied the establishment of a city in China named after Kashan, a major carpet producing city in Iran, according to Mehr.
Faraji, also the head of Iran’s National Carpet Center, said the Chinese Embassy has denied the report on production of mocks of Iranian hand-woven carpets.
He added that China languishes gradually in the international carpet market as it has failed to influence the industry as it did in other fields.
Some states among them India, China, Pakistan, and Nepal produce and often advertise carpets with illicitly copied Iranian designs, added the minister.
