Invista’s Antron Re-Certified as Environmentally P
Atlanta, GA, June 20, 2006--Invista announced the re-certification of Antron carpet fiber as an Environmentally Preferable Product (EPP) by Scientific Certification Systems (SCS).
Originally awarded certification in 2002, Antron carpet fiber was the first carpet fiber manufacturer to earn EPP certification by an independent third party.
"As an industry leader, we are committed to the re-certification of Antron carpet fiber as an environmentally preferable product and providing specifiers sustainable product offerings," said Alan Wolk, president of interiors, INVISTA. "Since we received our initial certification in 2002, there are more than 700 carpet styles with EPP certified Antron carpet fiber."
As defined by Executive Order (EO) 13101, EPPs include products or services that have a lesser or reduced effect on human health and the environment when compared with competing products or services that serve the same purpose. SCS's certification examines all stages of a product's lifecycle and incorporates environmental and human health issues relevant to the category. Products are evaluated on product performance, manufacturing process, amount of green energy used in manufacturing the product, health and safety issues associated with manufacturing and end-of-life responsibility.
"Re-certification is essential to maintaining the validity of environmental claims made by product manufacturers," said Kirsten Ritchie, director, Scientific Certification Systems, Inc. "Manufacturers are required to submit updated information demonstrating that their product continues to meet the EPP criteria. Antron carpet fiber has once again achieved this distinction in the marketplace."
The EPP certification includes Antron Lumena BCF, Antron Legacy BCF fibers, Antron Brilliance BCF fibers and Antron Legacy staple fibers.
Scientific Certification Systems is a scientific organization recognized internationally for its third party evaluation and certification programs. SCS is the leading independent certifier of environmental claims in the U.S. and has certified claims on thousands of products, addressing a wide range of environmental issues.
