Invista Unveiling 'Non-Booth' at GreenBuild
Atlanta, GA, Nov. 10, 2008--Invista said it plans to take new approach to exhibiting at the U.S. Green Building Council’s (USGBC) Greenbuild Conference and Expo by using a “non-booth” concept.
In lieu of shipping a booth and supplies to the show site in Boston, Invista plans to create its exhibit with all locally sourced and reclaimed materials, based on a minimalist design.
Defining the space will be a 14-year-old carpet removed recently from a leading Boston-area university.
Vintage furniture will greet visitors along with 1950’s style chalkboards that will display brand messaging and graphics created onsite by an artist, all sourced locally.
All booth materials will be reused or donated to local charities after the show. The reclaimed carpet will be cut into sample sizes and used by Antron fiber consultants to demonstrate the lasting texture retention, soil resistance and stain resistance the fiber brings to commercial carpet constructions.
According to Tradeshow Week magazine the trade show industry is ranked as the second most wasteful industry in the country by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
“Greenbuild gives Invista a unique opportunity to network with the industry and share insights on the green building movement,” said Henning Bloech, sustainability director.
“We wanted to participate in the trade show and support the USGBC, but felt we needed to do so in a way that brings to life our multi-tiered approach to environmental responsibility. Using a beautiful 14-year-old reclaimed carpet of Antron® fiber demonstrates how products that last longer continue to provide value, and using minimal materials and locally sourced supplies for the exhibit is one way for us to ‘walk the talk’ when it comes to reducing waste and using resources efficiently.”
Some of the quantifiable environmental benefits achieved:
- More than 200 gallons of diesel fuel saved by not shipping the existing booth from a warehouse in Chicago to Boston, which helped avoid over 1200 pounds of greenhouse gas emissions
- No packaging waste
- No use of virgin raw materials of any kind as the complete exhibit is made of consumed materials that will continue to be used after the conference
- Donated 1500 greenhouse gas emission reduction credits to Leonardo Academy’s Cleaner and Greener® Program to offset greenhouse gas emissions associated with travel of INVISTA personnel to attend the show
