Invista To Step Up Energy Savings Efforts

Wichita, KS, July 15, 2011 -- Carpet fiber maker Invista said it has established a global goal to reduce its energy intensity 20% by 2020.

The company said the goal is part of the company's commitment to use energy efficiently.

To achieve the goal, the company plans to optimize its current energy practices in addition to making capital investments at its manufacturing facilities that reduce the amount of energy used per ton of product.

Michel Lebrun, Invista's vice president of operations excellence, said the company's Gersthofen, Germany, site has reduced its energy intensity by 11% since 2007 through raising the overall energy awareness at all levels of the organization and implementing various technical and operational waste-elimination initiatives.

Additionally, Invista said its Performance Surfaces & Materials business has reduced the total fuel energy intensity at its North American facilities by 13% compared to 2007 levels through waste elimination and system upgrades in site-generated utilities such as steam.
