Invista Still Committed to Reclaimation Program

Atlanta, GA, Jun. 2--Invista, makers of Antron carpet fiber, announced today that it will maintain its strong commitment to the Invista Reclamation Program, the first facility of its type to be independently certified as a carpet reclamation and processing facility. “The Invista Reclamation Program is the most successful, comprehensive program in the carpet industry and is equipped to handle growing customer demand for the environmentally responsible disposal of carpet,” said Robert Berrier, vice president, Invista Commercial and Transportation Flooring. "This program is beneficial to our customers as Invista continues to emphasize the importance of sustainable life cycle practices such as offering more sustainable end of life solutions.” As the first and only nationwide carpet reclamation program that recycles all types of carpet, the Invista Reclamation Program has collected and recycled more than 100 million pounds of used carpet since its inception in 1991, resulting in more than 370,000 cubic yards of conserved landfill space. Upon reclamation, the various types of carpet become feedstock materials for engineered resins, carpet backing and padding, and various construction and landscaping materials. “Sustainability incorporates all stages of a product’s life cycle, from manufacturing to environmentally sound disposal practices like the Invista Reclamation Program,” said Mark Ryan, Antron environmental initiatives manager. “Implementing environmentally preferable practices throughout the life cycle of a product helps Antron on its journey toward being a truly sustainable carpet fiber." The Invista Reclamation Center in Calhoun, GA became the first carpet reclamation facility to be certified as a carpet reclamation and processing facility in 2002 under Scientific Certification Systems’ Environmental Claims Certification Program. Invista is proud to announce that SCS has recently re-certified the Invista Reclamation Center and certified many recycled products that are produced by the center. Some of the products that are certified to contain post-consumer recycled content are EcoSoft carpet cushion and the feedstock materials that go into other products like engineering resins, automotive parts, and natural turf based roofing tiles. Additional products that are made from post consumer carpet received at the reclamation facility include furniture, pallets, filtration pipes, stepping stones, ceramic tile backer boards and carpet-based boards. Scientific Certification Systems (SCS) is a scientific organization recognized internationally for its third party evaluation and certification programs. SCS is the leading independent certifier of environmental claims in the U.S. and has certified claims on thousands of products, addressing a wide range of environmental issues.
