Invista Reclamation Accepting Carpet from All Comm

Atlanta, GA, November 10--Recycling commercial carpet has become easier with the Invista Carpet Reclamation Center announcing it will accept carpet from all commercial dealers. "This fits with our environmental strategy," says Bobby Berrier, vice president -- Invista commercial & transportation flooring. "Antron carpet fiber has led the industry as an Environmentally Preferable Product (EPP), and recycling is a key part of that effort." Berrier says the managers of the Invista Carpet Reclamation Center want to make the process as simple as possible. The facility, based in Calhoun, Ga., will provide containers for collection and trailers for transport, if needed, or dealers can deliver post-consumer carpet directly to the facility. The network of Antron fiber consultants will develop partnerships with the commercial dealers and assist with pricing for the service. "End-users, architects, designers and commercial dealers have told us they want to recycle," says Berrier. "We've made our program more flexible and less restrictive in hopes that more people can take advantage of this environmentally-responsible option. Dealers and end-users interested in recycling should contact our fiber consultants for more information." As the first and only nationwide carpet reclamation program that recycles all types of carpet, the center has collected more than 100 million pounds of carpet, resulting in more than 370,000 cubic yards of conserved landfill space. In 2002, the reclamation center became the first carpet reclamation facility to be certified as a carpet reclamation and processing facility under Scientific Certification Systems' Environmental Claims Certification Program. After a second rigorous evaluation, the Invista Reclamation Center was re-certified this year. A number of the recycled products that are produced by the center were also certified. Some of the products certified to contain post-consumer recycled content are EcoSoft carpet cushion and the feedstock materials that go into other products like engineering resins and automotive parts. Additional products that are made from post-consumer carpet received at the reclamation facility include furniture, pallets, filtration pipes, ceramic tile backer boards, carpet backings and carpet-based boards. Invista includes its reclaimed post-industrial nylon waste in the daily prgoduction of virtually all 1245 denier Antron Lumena solution dyed nylon products. It also offers Antron Legacy nylon and Antron Lumena solution dyed nylon with high recycled content nylon. Commercial carpets containing these fibers meet the highest fiber performance standards for carpet durability in the industry and reduce consumption of conventional raw materials.
