Invista Progressing Toward 2020 Energy Goals
Kennesaw, GA, Nov. 10, 2010 -- Invista Performance Surfaces & Materials said it has achieved substantial improvements in energy use and emissions reductions since 2007 as the company moves toward its 2020 goal of reducing energy usage by 20%.
Invista said it has increased energy efficiency and its manufacturing units have become more efficient.
“We have energy managers at all of our North American plant sites who are dedicated to achieving energy improvements, and we’re proud of the progress that they and their teams have been making,” said Derek Young, global sustainability director for INVISTA PS&M.
Invista said that since 2007 it has reduced total fuel energy intensity by 13% through waste elimination and site-generated utilities such as steam and utility system upgrades aimed at eliminating heat losses.
The company also said it has reduced total fuel CO2 Intensity by 21%, partly by replacing coal boilers with natural gas boilers.
Invista has also reduced total CO2 emissions by 6%, partly by redirecting bulk continuous filament (BCF) production to more energy efficient assets has enabled this reduction.
