Invista Donates Global Warming Credits for World W

Kennesaw, GA, Oct. 21--Invista will retire 11,725,007 pounds of global warming credits to offset emissions caused by energy use at the International Facility Management Association (IFMA) World Workplace 2003 conference in Dallas, Tex., on Oct. 19-21, 2003. The credits represent a reduction from the DuPont Sabine River Plant in Orange, Tex., equivalent to 5,863 tons of carbon dioxide. Global warming credits are awarded to companies that take action to reduce pollutant emissions. Credits can typically be sold, traded or banked for future use. Rather than save these emission credits for future trading, Invista has chosen to donate the credits to Leonardo Academy, a non-profit organization dedicated to putting the competitive market to work on improving the environment. Through the organization’s Cleaner and Greenersm program, the credits will be retired, offsetting the amount of CO2 pollution that is discharged to the atmosphere from travel, hotels, utilities, and all potential emissions connected to the conference. Invista, formerly DuPont Textiles & Interiors, has been aggressively translating its business to sustainable growth focuses, including significant reductions in global warming emissions, hazardous wastes and energy consumption,” said Alan Wolk, Invista, President - Interiors & Industrial. “Antron is proud to be the only carpet face fiber that has achieved Environmentally Preferable Product certification, signifying a lesser or reduced effect on human health and the environment when compared to other products and services that serve the same purpose. Through our efforts, we have offset global warming emissions caused by the 2002 USGBC conference, the 2002 EnvironDesign7 conference, 2003 NeoCon® tradeshow, 2003 Symposium on Healthcare Design, and now, the 2003 IFMA World Workplace conference.” IFMA's signature event, World Workplace, features educational programs, extensive networking opportunities and an all-encompassing exposition of products and services relevant to the built environment. IFMA's World Workplace offers the opportunity to discuss work environments with a community of peers, experts, product and service providers.
