Invista Adding Production in Lycra, Spandex

Waynesboro, VA, July 26, 2010--Waynesboro’s Invista plant will add 20 to 25 employees in the coming weeks as a result of improvement and greater competitiveness in its Lycra and Spandex operations, the company said.

Invista said it is running more production of Lycra/Spandex than was predicted.

The jobs surge comes 19 months after Invista announced plans for a mass layoff of more than 200 employees along with the loss of more than 100 contract jobs. A second layoff announcement came last last year.

When the company announced that layoff in November, the planned cuts were attributed to a sluggish demand in the carpet and apparel industries.
