Invista Eco Consultant Completes Antron Analysis

Atlanta, GA, July 18, 2008--Invista said that the U.S.-based Boustead Consulting & Associates Ltd. has completed global eco-profiles, or cradle-to-gate life cycle analyses, for its Antron carpet fiber.

Boustead Consulting & Associates Ltd., a third-party expert in environmental life cycle evaluations, was hired to study and analyse environmental impact data for all Invista plants worldwide that produce Antron.

The eco-profiles take into account all environmental inputs and outputs related to a product’s manufacturing and raw material distribution, including raw material consumption, water use, energy use, carbon footprint, waste generation, packaging and transportation. The cradle-to-gate, life-cycle-based global eco-profile delivers a holistic view of a product’s environmental impacts from raw material extraction to the final product, in contrast to single attribute claims which highlight only selected environmental attributes.

“The results of this study provide us with a truly comprehensive global analysis of the environmental footprint of ANTRON® carpet fibre, from the cradle to finished fibre,” said Henning Bloech, manager of environmental initiatives for Invista based in the U.S.

“These data will become the benchmark for managing the key factors that contribute to sustainable carpet fiber production. The global eco-profile provides us with a thorough, rigorous approach to maintaining our current environmental certifications, and will also enable our understanding as we continually work to improve manufacturing processes and develop new product offerings.”

The Boustead eco-profile is a powerful tool to help manufacturers understand their product’s environmental impact and find ways for improvement, said Bernard Yaros, Boustead Consulting & Associates Ltd.

The results of the eco-profiles played a key role in Invista obtaining an Environmentally Preferable Product (EPP) re-certification from Scientific Certification Systems (SCS).
