Interprint Installs New Laser Engraving Equipment
Pittsfield, MA, Aug. 11, 2008--Interprint USA broke ground for a new facility in July.
The 18,000 square foot addition will accommodate a state-of-the-art laser engraving equipment for printing cylinders, an important capability in the laminate industry.
“We moved in less than two years ago and we’ve already reached maximum capacity, so this new construction is necessary to support our continued growth as well,” said Managing Director Jens Bauer.
The total cost for the expansion and new equipment is estimated to be $7 million. Once the laser engraving line is brought online, Interprint USA will become the first North American décor printer with the ability to laser engrave printing cylinders in-house.
Laser engraving technology generates a laser beam that reproduces complex designs and patterns onto a cylinder’s surface with a greater fidelity than possible using mechanical technologies.
A laser-engraved cylinder can print a much wider tonal range, yielding greater dimensionality and realism, sharper contrasts and smoother gradients.
The company said it is not only improving the quality of its product but reducing the time it takes to bring it to market.
