Interface’s Anderson Honored by IIDA

Chicago, IL, June 27--The International Interior Design Association’s International Honors and Awards were presented at IIDA’s Ninth Annual Meeting on Sunday, June 15, 2003 by Association President, Anita Barnett, FIIDA. The IIDA Star Award recognizing outstanding contributions to the interior design profession by an individual, was presented to Ray Anderson, Chairman and CEO, Interface, Inc. While Interface is noted in its industry for its commitment to high quality design and innovation, under Ray’s leadership the company is fast gaining a reputation as a corporation carrying the banner for the environment. The IIDA Distinguished Merit Award recognizes outstanding contributions to IIDA by an IIDA Professional Member. This year’s award was presented to Luz Maria Duran, IIDA. Luz Maria is President of the IIDA Mexico City Chapter, and an exemplary Member of the Association working tirelessly to demonstrate the Association’s commitment to the international design community. She organized a successful Mexico City Design Congress in the fall of 2002, raising awareness of IIDA’s mission. The IIDA Leadership Award recognizes outstanding leadership contributions to the interior design profession by an IIDA Professional Member. This year’s recipient was Michael Bourque, FIIDA. Aside from being a Principal at Sasaki Associates, Michael has dedicated his energy to advocating for sustainable design. Most visibly, he was instrumental in founding the Green Design website created by IIDA, IDEC, IFMA and Metropolis Magazine accessible at www.idec.org/greendesign/home.html. The IIDA Recognition for Special Services Award heralds outstanding service to IIDA by an individual non-member and was presented to Brad Powell, Editor of Officeinsight, a weekly industry publication. Brad has been a valuable, supportive media partner who works to educate the public about the Association and the value of the design profession. In addition, he has been an active participant in the Industry Advisory Council.
