Interface Ranks 8th on Best 50 Corporate Citizens

Atlanta, GA, August 25--Interface placed 8th on the 2005 annual ranking of the Best 50 Corporate Citizens list in Canada, compiled by Corporate Knights business magazine. Interface scored the highest among the Consumer Discretionary sector. The list recognizes companies that are best living up to their civil foundation responsibilities and doing the best job at fulfilling their end of the social contract. "We are honored to have been recognized as one of the top 50 most responsible corporate citizens in Canada. This shows that our presence and approach to corporate responsibility can have a positive impact on people’s lives and ways of thinking,” said Rahumathulla Marikkar, director of technology and environment for Interface Flooring Systems Canada. Corporate Knights developed the Corporate Citizens Database as a consistent and reliable source of data that contains information on publicly available documents. Evaluating 116 companies, including all of the S&P/TSX 60 constituents, the business magazine will be able to tell: if things are getting better, which areas need improvement and which areas are making progress. The ranking was based on corporate impacts including: percent of tax paid, pension fund surplus, prudence of pension fund assumptions, fairness of CEO pay, shareholder conflicts, key executive retention rate over the past three years, key executive gender diversity, board independence, board diversity, number of related companies located in offshore tax havens, number of registered federal lobbyists, work stoppages, toxic releases and clean-up of toxic releases over the two most recent years for which data is available. The Best 50 Corporate Citizens is an annual ranking provided each year by the Corporate Knights business magazine with support from Industry Canada.
