Initial Jobless Claims Lower Than Expected

Washington, DC, Aug. 21, 2014 --Initial claims for jobless benefits fell 14,000 last week to a seasonally adjusted 298,000, according to the Labor Department.

The less-volatile four-week average rose 4,750 to 300,750.

Economists were looking for initial claims to total 303,000.
