Initial Jobless Claims Fall

Washington, DC, April 23, 2010--Initial jobless claims fell 24,000 last week to a seasonally adjusted 456,000, the first drop in three weeks, the Labor Department reported Thursday.

The number of people collecting regular state benefits dropped by 40,000 to a seasonally adjusted 4.65 million in the week of April 10.

All told, in the week of April 3, 10.54 million people were collecting some type of unemployment benefits, down 538,000 from the previous week's 11.08 million.
