Initial Jobless Claims Edge Higher Last Week

Washington, DC, Oct. 5, 2012 -- Initial claims for unemployment benefits edged up last week, according to the Labor Department.

Initial jobless claims rose to a seasonally adjusted 367,000 in the seven days ended Sept. 29, compared to an upwardly 363,000 in the prior week, the Labor Department said.

The average of new claims over the past month was unchanged at 375,000.
