Initial Jobless Claims Dropped by 18,000 in Week Ending April 1

April 6, 2023, Washington, D.C.--In the week ending April 1, 2023, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial jobless claims was 228,000, a decrease of 18,000 from the previous week's revised level, according to the Department of Labor.

The previous week's level was revised up by 48,000 from 198,000 to 246,000.

These numbers reflect a new methodology to seasonally adjust the national initial claims and continued claims, now that the pandemic-related impacts are clearer. This estimation model represents a return to the pre-pandemic model.
