Initial Jobless Applications Rose Last Week
Washington, DC, July 22, 2010--Initial jobless applications rose 37,000 to stand at 464,000 last week, the Labor Department reported Thursday.
Economists had expected first-time claims to come in at 450,000 for the week ended July 17.
The average number of workers filing claims over the past four weeks rose 1,250 to 456,000.
Continuing claims in the week ended July 10 fell 223,000 to a total of 4.49 million.
The four-week average of these continuing claims decreased as well, falling 21,500 to 4.57 million.
