Inflation Rises in January on Gasoline Prices

Washington, DC, Feb. 17, 2012 -- Consumer prices rose at their fastest pace in four months in January as gasoline prices increased, according to the Labor Department.

Gasoline prices jumped 0.9% in January.

Still, the 0.2% increase in the Consumer Price Index isn't likely to change the Fed's policy toward more potential stimulus for the economy, experts said.

The rise in prices was just below analysts' expectations of a 0.3% increase.

The gain in gasoline prices was the first in four months.
