IIDA Reveals Design Winners

Chicago, IL, March 9, 2007--The International Interior Design Association (IIDA) has revealed the winners of its 2007 interior design competitions: the 34th Annual Interior Design Competition and the 15th Annual Will Ching Design Competition. Awards may not be given every year.

 

The five winners in the 34th Annual Interior Design Competition were chosen from hundreds of projects submitted in the following practice areas: Commercial, Government, Healthcare & Institutional, Hospitality, Residential and Retail.

 

1. Project: Silver Rain, a la prairie spa, Grand Cayman, CAYMAN ISLANDS

Firm: D’Aquino Monaco Inc.—New York, NY

2. Project: Seyfarth Shaw – Chicago, IL

Firm: Gensler—Chicago, IL

3. Project: Fornarina London – London, ENGLAND

Firm: Giorgio Borruso Design—Marina Del Rey, CA

4. Project: Kimukatsu, Ebisu, Tokyo—Shibuyaku, Tokyo JAPAN

Firm: Hironaka Ogawa & Associates— Suginamiku, Tokyo JAPAN

5. Project: Minarc House – Los Angeles, CA

Firm: Minarc—Santa Monica, CA

In addition, Eko, a jewelry store in Toronto, Ontario designed by Dialogue 38 of Toronto was

chosen as the winner of the 15th Annual Will Ching Design Competition, which honors outstanding commercial design by firms of five or fewer individuals. All winning projects will be featured in the NeoCon issue of Interior Design Magazine, the publishing partner for the competition.

 

Judges for the distinguished competition included Kelly Bauer, IIDA - Principal, richard+bauer; D.B. Kim - Vice President, Westin Design & Starwood Hotels Worldwide; David Oakey - President, David Oakey Designs; and Richard Pollack, FIIDA, FAIA - President, Pollack Architecture. Brian Thornton, IIDA, AIA, IIDA’s Vice President of Communications served as the facilitator for the judging which took place February 23-24, 2007 in Chicago.

 

The Best of Competition will be announced and all winners will be honored at COOL 2007,
