IIDA, AIA and CoreNet Global Honor Tricycle
Chattanooga TN, May 5, 2006--Tricycle, Inc., was honored with a special recognition at this year's Global Sustainable Leadership Awards for Design and Development, an international program presented by the American Institute of Architects, CoreNet Global and the International Interior Design Association. The awards, in their fifth year, recognize companies who lead by example as a cornerstone of their business practices. Winners of the Global Sustainable Leadership Awards were Herman Miller, Texas Instruments, and global architecture and engineering firm HOK. The judges created a Special Recognition for Innovation to acknowledge sustainable design company Tricycle, Inc., for its innovative digitally modeled paper print carpet samples, which are used by architects and interior designers during the early rounds of design decision making. In 2005, 37,701 SIM prints were sent as product samples to interior designers, conserving 9,425 gallons of oil and keeping 56,551 lbs of carpet samples from landfill. Designers also used Tricycle's online tools to create 77,998 simulations and install virtual carpet into 385,208 room scenes. Martha Parker, program manager for the awards, said, "According to the judges, Tricycle developed a new way to solve a long-standing environmental problem without sacrificing quality or design excellence. The company embodies a spirit of environmental entrepreneurship." "Our vision is to simultaneously enhance the designer's experience and dematerialize it," said Michael Hendrix, Tricycle's chief brand officer and creative director. "This great honor from the design community validates our vision, and helps push along the groundswell of positive change that we are already seeing."
