Honeywell Gets Environmentally Preferable Product

Dalton, GA, June 28--Honeywell has announced that all Zeftron brands of Premium Nylon 6ix Fiber Systems have been certified as Environmentally Preferable Products (EPP) by Scientific Certification Systems (SCS), the nation’s leading third-party, independent organization for certifying environmental achievements. The latest certification brings to seven the number of certifications Zeftron nylon has received from SCS for its environmental advances. Certification was awarded after a rigorous evaluation process that examined each phase of the life cycle, including resource consumption, product manufacturing, product use, and end of life. Through Executive Order 13101, also known as the “greening of the government,” the Federal government defines “Environmentally Preferable” as products or services that have a lesser or reduced effect on human health and the environment when compared with competing products or services that serve the same purpose. Environmentally preferable is more comprehensive than single attribute claims, such as recycled content. Manufacturers who have achieved certification are required each year to submit updated information demonstrating that their product continues to meet the EPP criteria. “Achieving EPP certification is further validation that Honeywell is committed to environmental leadership,” said Tim Blount, manager of commercial marketing products for Honeywell Nylon. “As more and more companies continue to make environmental claims about their products, receiving certification from an independent, third-party organization such as SCS with its stringent evaluation processes provides our customers with an added level of assurance that the products they receive from us do indeed meet the highest levels of environmental responsibility.” During NeoCon earlier this month, Honeywell Nylon showcased its latest environmental stewardship initiative, the Enviro6ix® initiative. Announced in April, the Enviro6ix® initiative is a mark of assurance that guarantees Zeftron-branded products bearing the “Enviro6ix” logo are guaranteed to contain a minimum of 25 percent recycled content. The Enviro6ix initiative has also received third-party certification by SCS. SCS has also certified Honeywell Nylon’s 6ix Again® Carpet Recycling Programs, its Nylon 6ix depolymerization unit in Canada, and its Zeftron Savant® fiber, which contains the highest amount of recycled content in the industry, including 25 percent post-consumer recycled content.
