Home Depot to Close Three Call Centers

Atlanta, GA, December 5, 2007--Home Depot will close three call centers that handle orders for home installation, according to a company spokesman Steve Holmes. The closures will mean the elimination of 950 jobs.

Holmes said the company plans to shift the work from those centers to its stores. A move he said that will improve customer service. The affected employees were notified Monday.

The call centers that will close January 28 are in Chicago, Dallas and Tampa, Fla. Home Depot will have eight call centers left in North America, Holmes said. There are no plans to close those centers. In March, a Home Depot call center in Addison, Texas, closed, cutting 550 jobs, he said.

The call centers give price quotes and complete orders for customers who go into stores and order flooring and other types of home installations, Holmes said.
