Atlanta, GA, August 1--Home Depot said it received a federal grand jury subpoena seeking documents and information related to its handling, storage and disposal of hazardous waste.
The U.S. Attorney's Office in Los Angeles, California, issued the subpoena, and California state and local government authorities are also investigating, Home Depot disclosed in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
Home Depot released a statement saying it is committed to responsible environmental practices and "seeks to ensure adherence to all environmental-related laws and regulations."
Jerry Shields, a spokesman for Home Depot, said the retailer had no other comment on the investigation and declined to provide details about the nature of the materials.
The company’s federal filing said it was cooperating fully with the respective authorities and does not expect the investigations to have a material adverse effect on its operating results or financial condition.
