Home Depot Realigns Divisions

Atlanta, GA, December 23-- The Atlanta Journal-Constitution has reported that Home Depot is reorganizing its store divisions, following similar moves last year. The newspaper said that the Atlanta-based home improvement retailer will keep its West division intact. But the Central and East divisions will now be divided into North and South for efficiency reasons, according to the company. It quoted David Sandor, spokesman for the 1,853-store chain, as saying that no layoffs and no office closures are planned. Last year, when Home Depot merged its Northwest division into its West division, the chain closed a support center and cut about 100 jobs. Since Bob Nardelli took over the company as chairman, president and chief executive, the chain has consolidated nine divisions into three.
