Atlanta, GA, Dec. 19--Home Depot today opened its 1,500th store, located in Abilene, Texas, and reaffirmed it is on target to add 200 locations and create 40,000 new jobs by the end of its fiscal year.
Robert L. Nardelli, chairman, president, and CEO, said, "The Home Depot is the fastest growing retailer in history. Just 20 years ago, the company operated ten stores and had roughly 4.2 million customer transactions. Last quarter, our 1,471 stores handled 286 million purchases in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico."
At the 1500th store opening in Abilene, Home Depot associates and local officials unveiled a giant 8'x10' orange apron. The new location marks the company's 117th store in the state of Texas.
