Hillis to Head Mohawk Group's Fashion Brands

Kennesaw, GA, March 31--Steve Hillis, who for the past four years has been senior vice president sales and marketing for Durkan Patterned Carpet, has been named senior vice president fashion brands for The Mohawk Group. Tom Lape, president of The Mohawk Group, said that Hillis will be adding to his responsibilities, continuing to oversee the hospitality division that includes Durkan Patterned Carpet and its sibling brands, Merit and Durkan Suites. In his new position, Hillis also will be directing sales for the fashion commercial division, which includes the Karastan Contract and Durkan Commercial brands. Lape credits Hillis for the measurable growth he has brought to Durkan Hospitality in his tenure. "There is a natural fit and synergies between our three top-tier brands that make Steve Hillis the logical choice to head this segment of our business. He has a proven track record with Durkan in its growth within the hospitality field, and we believe his sales leadership can now also benefit our other fashion-driven products." Hillis joined Mohawk Industries in 1999 as vice president of business development, and in 2000 was named vice president of marketing and national accounts. He is a 20-year veteran of the commercial floor covering industry, with previous management experience including four years with Collins & Aikman, and 12 years as president of Metro Flooring Companies, a specialized commercial flooring dealer. "In taking on this new role," said Hillis, "my first priority is to build on our commitment to expand Karastan’s woven product line. Karastan now is the largest manufacturer of woven carpet in the world, and the only U.S.-based one. Durkan Commercial has performed very well, and we will continue to add stylish designs to that brand, as well," he said. In addition to Karastan Contract, Durkan Patterned Carpet, and Durkan Commercial, the other contract carpet brands comprising The Mohawk Group are Mohawk Commercial, Bigelow Commercial and Lees Carpets.
