High Performance Buildings Coalition Formed

New York, NY, July 20, 2012 -- Twenty-seven associations representing a range of interests in the building and construction industry said they have formed the American High-Performance Buildings Coalition.

These coalition said it was formed to promote and support the development of sustainable building standards, which are based on consensus and scientific performance data.

One of the founders of the coalition, the American Chemistry Council, has been critical recently of the U.S. Green Building Council and proposed materials changes to its LEED certification system.

Also, the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) is in the process of reviewing the use of green building standards by the federal government.

“As energy efficiency and building performance become increasingly important priorities for the public and private sectors, green building standards and rating systems should be based on the best available data, gathered from a range of stakeholders with relevant expertise,” said Steve Russell, vice president of plastics for the American Chemistry Council.

The Resilient Floor Covering Institute is a member of the coalition.
