Haverty Same-Store Sales Off 10%

Atlanta, GA, November 3, 2006--Haverty Furniture reported a 10.1 percent decline in same-stores sales as written orders declined and there were fewer home delivery days from the prior year. Total sales for October fell 7.6 percent to $63.5 million. Haverty, which had reported same-store sales increases for the previous five months, said written orders were down about 6 percent from the year-earlier October. Furniture makers and retailers have come under pressure this year as cooling U.S. home sales and higher borrowing costs led some consumers to pull back from big-ticket purchases. Many publicly traded companies, including Stanley Furniture, La-Z-Boy and Ethan Allen, have already reported lower quarterly results or warned that profit will fall short of estimates. In its statement, Haverty said there were two fewer delivery days in October compared with the year-ago month.
