Haverty Furniture June Sales Rise

Atlanta, GA, July 7—Haverty Furniture said its June sales increased 1.6% to $65.5 million, compared with $64.5 million in June 2004. On a comparable-store basis, June sales decreased 1.8%. Sales for the first six months of 2005 increased 8.1% to $400.0 million compared with $369.9 million in 2004. On a comparable-store basis, sales increased 3.5% for the first six months. Clarence H. Smith, president and chief executive officer, said, "June sales results did not meet our expectations although we did continue to experience growth in both the average price per item and the average sales ticket. The delivered sales results for June are in line with our written sales orders relative to last year, with business in early July running at a slower pace. August and September will have much easier comparisons due to the impact of the record level of hurricane activity last year.
