Hardwoods of Alabama Expands

Alabaster, AL, September 1, 2006--Hardwoods Inc., of Alabama has expanded into its new Alabaster facility, which is more than twice as big as the company's former location in Thorsby, according to the Birmingham Business Journal. Long known as Dixie Hardwoods, the company became Hardwoods Inc. of Alabama after it was acquired by Atlanta Hardwoods in 1998, says general manager David Hopper. The wholesale distributor of cabinet-making and flooring materials employs 30 people. The new facility, a 75,000-square-foot building at 180 Airview Lane near the Shelby County Airport, was purchased by Atlanta Hardwoods in the fall of 2005. Hopper says about $6 million was invested in the acquisition and renovations, which included carving out about 10,000 square feet of retail space geared toward the weekend warrior of home improvement.
