Hardwood Flooring Shipments On Track for Another S

Memphis, TN, July 29-—Hardwood flooring shipments for June 2005 are reported at 45,064,000 square feet, a slight decline (1%) from the previous month’s shipments, according to NOFMA: The Wood Flooring Manufacturers Association. June’s shipments are slightly more than 4% under the figures reported for the same month the previous year, but it should be noted that June 2004 shipments represented the strongest month of what turned out to be the strongest year for flooring shipments since the mid 1960s. Figures for June 2004 showed shipments of 47,095,000 square feet. Year-to-date shipments for the first six months of 2005 are 254,436,000 square feet, just 2% less than the same period in 2004 when shipments through the first six months were 259,285,000 board feet. Hardwood flooring shipments for the past 12 months have totaled 513,210,000 square feet, or about three million feet higher than the same 12-month period one year ago. NOFMA believes the continued strong figures reflect the generally strong economy and particularly encouraging economic indicators in the housing sector. NOTE: In June 2005, NOFMA began reporting figures in square feet. For comparison purposes, a factor of .77 has been applied to covert previous months’ board footage figures to square feet.
