Hardwood Exports to Middle East on The Rise

Washington, DC, Sept. 14, 2010--The total value of U.S. hardwood lumber shipped to Egypt from January to June 2010 rose 113% to $6.1 million compared to the first half of last year, according to the American Hardwood Export Council.

Also, shipments of American hardwood veneer to the market grew by 25% to $3.1 million, making Egypt the largest importer of American hardwood lumber and veneer in the Mena region, AHEC said.

Egypt imported 9,240 cubic meters of American hardwood lumber, marking an 80% rise during the January to June period of this year.

Demand for domestic furniture, flooring, door and interior joinery sectors are expected to continue to drive up demand for imported hardwoods for the foreseeable future.
