Hardwood Export Council Hosting Dubai Event
Dubai, UAE, March 24, 2009--U.S. hardwood lumber, veneer and flooring exports to the Middle East and North Africa region have topped $55.1m in 2008, reflecting a 19% rise from the previous export figure recorded in 2007 at $46.3m, according to the American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC).
With the goal of increasing exports of U.S. wood products to the region, AHEC will be hosting 20 U.S. companies at the upcoming Dubai International Wood & Wood Machinery Show 2009 under the American Hardwood Pavilion.
The American Hardwood Pavilion will feature the most significant products being exported to the Middle East.
"Amidst the current downturn in the (Middle East North Africa) construction sector, market trends are pointing towards a gradual recovery within the year ahead," said Roderick Wiles, AHEC consultant.
AHEC's participation at the event is in anticipation of the renewed demand for wood products, with leading construction markets such as Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
"The stable movement of lumber, veneer and flooring products to the Mena region underlines the strong reputation of U.S. hardwoods among regional customers," Wiles said.
