Hanley Wood Buys Roofing Show

Washington, DC, May 19--Hanley Wood, LLC, the leading business-to-business media company serving the residential construction industry, today announced the purchase of the National Roofing Contractors' annual trade show. Purchase price was not disclosed. The NRCA show is North America's largest roofing exhibition, with close to 90,000 net square feet of exhibit space and 7,000-8,000 attendees in recent years. The exhibition showcases the latest products, materials, equipment and services relevant to the roofing construction and maintenance industry. The show's education program covers topics such as strategies to thrive in difficult times, enhancing leadership skills, crisis planning, fleet safety management, and various industry technical issues. Attendees of the show are roofing professionals from around the world, including contractors, architects, building owners, consultants and other industry professionals. Exhibitors are the manufacturers, distributors and suppliers to this industry. The transaction closed May 18, 2004. On the same day, Hanley Wood and NRCA entered into a 45-year sponsorship agreement making NRCA the official sponsor of the trade show. Hanley Wood Exhibitions will produce both the conference and the trade show during the sponsorship period and will work with NRCA to develop the show's educational program. The NRCA annual meetings will continue to take place during the show, as they have in the past. "Hanley Wood is the leading media company in residential construction and we have been very active in acquiring construction industry trade shows. The roofing industry is poised for strong growth due to the strength of the housing industry and the built-in demand for roof replacement on both houses and commercial structures. This show, partnered with NRCA, has a terrific upside," added Michael Wood, Chief Executive Officer of Hanley Wood. "Hanley Wood's business plan is to expand and improve the Show into an even bigger event that will attract new exhibitors, particularly those with residential roofing products, and increase qualified attendees," said Bill Good, executive vice president of the NRCA. "This is good news for the roofing industry, NRCA and its roofing contractor members." The first Hanley Wood event will be the February 2005 Show, which will take place February 16-19 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, FL. "We are excited to be returning to Orlando for next year's show. Its location and outstanding facilities should serve as an excellent venue," commented Galen Poss, President of Hanley Wood Exhibitions. The show will be managed by Rick McConnell, senior show director for Hanley Wood, and his team which also produces Hanley Wood's Pool and Spa Show and JLC Live events. The 2006 Roofing Contractor Show will move to Las Vegas. Hanley Wood has experienced tremendous growth in its exhibitions division during the last four years, growing from one to 12 shows, four of which are in the Trade Show Week Top 200. With the addition of the Roofing Contractor Show, Hanley Wood Exhibitions will encompass approximately two million square feet of space and attract a quarter of a million attendees annually. Much of this success is attributed to the educational programming available at the shows. Berkery, Noyes & Co., LLC represented the NRCA in the transaction. Veronis Suhler Stevenson represented Hanley Wood.
