H. Hendy Gets Two Shaw Contract Awards

New Port Beach, CA, July 18, 2006--Architectural firm H. Hendy Associates, announced it has secured two of the eight nominations by Shaw Contract Group for its prestigious Shaw Contract Group Design. H. Hendy Associates was nominated for its work on behalf of two clients: Umenonhana, an upscale Japanese restaurant in Beverly Hills, Calif., and Argent, a major financial institution. It is the only company to receive more than one nomination for its work. "It is always an honor to have your work recognized through awards," said Heidi Hendy, principal of H. Hendy Associates. "But these awards are particularly sweet because they are decided upon by our peers. We are thrilled to have two of our projects as nominees." For the Umenonhana restaurant, H. Hendy Associates was tasked with creating a space that would carefully blend American and Japanese cultures in an elegant environment designed to complement the unique Kaiseki presentation of the restaurant's many courses of tofu. Its work with a major financial institution consisted of transforming half of the ground floor of an existing building into a flexible, multi-purpose 11,000-square-foot national training center. Projects nominated for the Shaw Contract Group Design Is... Award and other categories were judged on overall design of space and considered budget, use of color, environmental leadership, time constraints and functionality of space. The eight nominees were then displayed in the Shaw Contract Group showroom at the NeoCon trade show in June 2006. NeoCon attendees cast their votes for the winner of the People's Choice Award. And design awards in other categories Award winners will be announced during a live webcast on Sept. 13, 2006. "The finalists of the 2006 Design Is...Award demonstrate vision and tenacity in rethinking the very idea of what design is," said John Stephens, vice president of marketing for Shaw Contract Group. "The projects selected offer more than just a beautiful project; they also exhibit unique design processes and solutions. We are proud to celebrate others who share this broad view of design and look forward to announcing the winners this fall."
